Facing the Future (FtF), FOCUS’ latest project, hosted their first community event last month – and what a success it was!
‘Why Don’t You?’ was held at the Haymarket Shopping Centre on Saturday 22nd of June. FtF’s volunteer mental-health first-aiders coordinated the event, alongside both established and new partners. The youth event aimed to highlight to young people a sampler of some of the services and projects available to young people this summer holidays.
“I really enjoyed attending and found it incredibly useful. We made valuable connections with other community agencies.” – ZamZam Yusuf, Zam Zam Unlimited Possibilities CIC
“We found the event well-organised and impactful. The diverse sessions and networking opportunities were particularly valuable. We commend your team for creating such a positive environment.” – Juniper Training
Together, we were able to pack the large shop space with stalls and attractions, enticing and entertaining 120 young people passing through the Haymarket. We had games like hangman bar, and an E-sports gaming stall from Leicester City In The Community. A selection of amazing young musical performers from Stackhouse Productions lit up the event with their music. Leicester City Council’s Youth Service provided well-being goody bags; Anton Akoon Achievements provided an arts and crafts stall.

The atmosphere and comradeship between agencies were superb. Many parties are already agreeing that we plan a return venture in 2025 on a grander and wider reaching scale.
