Minder started her journey at FOCUS by attending the pilot National Citizen Service (NCS) ‘Summer of a Lifetime Programme’, aged 15. Following this experience, she became ‘addicted’ to volunteering and joined Focus’ Youth Action Team, where she volunteered on various community projects and helped organise cultural events such as Leicester Caribbean Carnival.

Minder went on to join the Focus staff team in September 2015 and has built up extensive knowledge and skills around community development, building sustainable partnerships and fundraising, and project management.

Over the years, Minder’s time at Focus has seen her work on numerous projects, of varying scales, with young people under a variety of themes, such as intergenerational, personal development, heritage and community volunteering.

“What really drives me in my work is a passion for creating an environment in which young people can thrive because they know that someone believes in them and where they can take control of their lives. They are so often more powerful than they realise and I love the feeling I get when I help them realise their ability to create positive change in their lives make a difference in their community.”
