Introduction

Over the past sixteen years FOCUS has developed a range of innovative and unique personal development programmes which have culminated in a new range of services to be launched from 2005. Using our expertise in bringing together diverse groups of people to learn from one another and to explore and exercise their social responsibilities, FOCUS is able to offer a range of highly effective programmes.

Who are these services for?

  • Young people aged 13 – 17
  • People with a disability aged 13 - 25
  • Business Managers
  • Volunteers

Our work is delivered through three core services: Challenge, Inspire and Explore. Each of these aims to address specific issues related to the lives of young people and people with disabilities and they have been designed and developed in consultation with a range of programme participants, relevant professionals, and our staff and volunteers.

Challenge

Bringing together teams of young people and adults to work together to undertake challlenges and develop their skills

Our Challenge Programme, operating mainly in schools, challenges teams of young people to plan and carry out a project for the benefit of their local community. With the support of a trained, local facilitator the young people gain in communication, leadership, negotiation and task management skills and in knowledge of their community and their responsibility for it. Challenge also acts as an active and innovative method of delivering the citizenship curriculum and supports schools in re-engaging and motivating pupils.

Our Challenge Residentials courses offer an opportunity for business managers to hone their skills whilst supporting teams of young people through a series of challenging and fun activites. More about Challenge...

Inspire

Creating residential communities in which individuals can develop their skills, confidence and self-esteem through which they are inspired to achieve their potential

Our unique residential experiences inspire individuals to take control of their lives. Inspire Residentials offers opportunities for individually referred young people and people with disabilities to identify and develop a range of skills in a safe and supportive environment. More about Inspire...

Explore encompasses a series of projects and programmes that offer further opportunities for young people and people with disabiliies who have previously experienced either Challenge or Inspire projects to develop their skills, self configence and self esteem.

Our Explore Workshops provide a fun and stimulating environment environment in which to explore issues that are relevant to young and disabled people.

Our Explore Residentials provide an opportunity for participants to build on skills identified in our other projects and to take a step closer to achieving their potential.
