The award is a programme of activities for you to do in your spare time. There are three Awards to try for: Bronze, Silver, and Gold. Gold takes the longest to do and is the hardest one to try for - usually, people start off on the Bronze award.
Skills: Do something different, weather you fancy yourself as a fine artist or a trapeze artist, we have got something that will suit you...
Physical Recreation: Could you be the next Beckham? Or Anna Kournikova? Virtually any sport, dance or fitness activity can count...
Expedition: Go on an expedition and find yourself. Train, plan and complete an adventurous journey in the countryside on foot, horseback, boat or cycle...
Residential Project: Work as a team on a conservation, service or activity-based project for five days (this is for Gold Award Participants only).
It's fun, challenging and different... so go on, take the challenge!

For young people, realising their potential, starts with realising that you have it To achieve that requires two things: someone to tell you that you have ability and an opportunity to prove it to yourself and to others.
So, put quite simply, that is what we offer young people: a combination of long-term personal support and challenging activities in 14 of the most disadvantaged areas across the UK.
Our goal is simple: to give young people the motivation, confidence and skills they need to change their own lives.

www.vrh.org.uk
Volunteer Reading Help (VRH) is a national charity that helps disadvantaged children develop a love of reading and learning. We recruit and train volunteers to work with children aged 6-11 who find reading a challenge and may need extra support and mentoring. Without individual support children can fall behind their peers and lack confidence and self esteem. Many may find it difficult to interact socially with adults. In later years they may drift into offending behaviour. Our trained network of reading helpers support the same children week in, week out, giving each an hour of quality, one to one time. They read, they play, they talk. With the support of VRH a new chapter in their life is opened, one which will provide them with opportunities that may otherwise be denied. Our work takes place in schools but outside the classroom. We also work in libraries and with looked after children. We are constantly exploring a range of new settings in which to deliver our services and reach more needy children.
