Emily Godwin is the Youth Volunteer Development Manager at FOCUS.
My journey started at the age of 14, when I sighed my self up as a volunteer at my local youth centre by the time I was 16 I was employed as a part time youth worker working with a special needs group, I carried on volunteering with other groups at the centre to and I haven’t looked back since. My Volunteering helped me quickly see that I wanted to work with young people.
I studied for my degree at DMU in Youth and Community Studies and graduated in 2007 during this time I did many jobs to keep me from being a starving student such as managing a local Cafe and working as an optical assistant for Dollond & Aitchison opticians as well as my youth work in the evenings.
I have been working for FOCUS since January 2008; my volunteering experience defiantly helped me to get to where I am today. If I hadn’t volunteered at the local youth centre at the age of 14 I may never of realised that this is my calling in life and have the experiences I have had to date.
