Hi my name is Chantelle Morris and I am 22 years old.
After experiencing a few difficulties in my personal life, my leaving care worker referred me to the princes trust 12-week development programme. This is where my volunteering experience began. The programme required me to undertake a two-week placement. I chose to do my placement at New Parks Youth Centre as an assistant youth worker, after the initial two weeks I decided to carry on volunteering at the youth centre and I took part in an NVQ course in youth work. This course helped me to gain the skills to become a contracted Assistant youth support worker.
I have also completed a volunteer placement at FOCUS as an Assistant Youth Volunteer Advisor This experience helped me to secure my place at De Montfort University on the Youth and Community Development Degree, whilst studying I continue to volunteer with the Leicester vinvolved team as part of their Youth Action Team.
Before I started volunteering I had low expectations and confidence in my self but with the continued support from the youth workers and the Leicester vinvolved team who have encouraged, empowered and supported me through my volunteering I have been able to achieve so much in such a short period of time.
Volunteering has changed my life forever. I feel with organisations offering a wide range of opportunities to young people they will benefit from a brighter future, enjoy volunteering and reach their dreams.
