I started Volunteering in March 2008

I contacted Millennium Volunteer project Co-ordinator in my local area but they informed me that their project had come to an end so they referred me through to the Leicester vInvolved Team at Focus.

When I first met with the Youth Volunteer Advisor at Focus my confidence was really low and I was unsure about what sort of volunteering I wanted to do, the youth volunteer advisor suggested that I join the Youth Action Team. During my first meeting at FOCUS I was really shy and didn’t want to go in to see the Youth Volunteer Advisor on my own. Now I can give an assembly to 200 young people and feel confident.

Being part of the Youth Action Team has really helped me build on my confidence and meet new people. I have also had the opportunity to go on several training courses, which will help my employability.

I have achieved the V50 Award, which is a nationally recognised award and I’m currently working towards the V Impact award.

I am so happy with what I’ve achieved over the last year, my life has changed for the better. I feel so much happier with in myself, I now have lots of new friends who mean everything to me and I’m volunteering with lots of organisations as well as being a committed YAT Member.

I say yes to any new opportunities offered to me as I know what difference new experiences can make to my life.
